The TACAD (Technology-based information and coaching/support program that is tailored for Asian American midlife women who are family caregivers of persons living with Alzheimer’s disease)
What is the purpose of this study?
The purpose of the proposed study is to preliminary evaluate TACAD in improving health outcomes of Asian American midlife women who are family caregivers of persons living with Alzheimer’s disease (AACA) and their care recipients.
What are the specific aims of this study?
The specific aims are to: a) qualitatively evaluate TACAD through an expert review and a usability test; b) quantitatively evaluate the preliminary efficacy of the TACAD in improving health outcomes of AACA and their care recipients.
What is the method of this study?
Participants will be included if they self-report as Asian American women aged 40 to 65 years old; identify as Chinese or Korean; are family caregivers of PLAD; can read and write English, Mandarin Chinese, or Korean; reside in the U.S.; and have access to the Internet through computers or mobile devices. On average, participants should be providing at least 4 hours per day, for community-dwelling person in the early-middle stage of illness (Clinical Dementia Rating of >=1) for whom there is no plan for institutionalization in six months. Also, caregivers may or may not reside with their care recipient. Those who used the AA website previously and/or participated in other studies related to AD will be excluded.
Depending on the group that participants are randomly assigned, they may or may not be asked to use the TACAD. This study consists of two groups: (1) a control group: 30 AACA (15 per sub-ethnic group) who do not use TACAD but use the Alzheimer’s Association (AA) website on AD and caregivers; (2) an intervention group: 30 AACA (15 per sub-ethnic group) who use TACAD and the AA website.
