“Asia Institute – Crane House is horrified at the loss of lives in Monterey Park, California on the eve of Lunar New Year, a time that is supposed to be joyous and celebratory for our community. This deadly shooting has saddened our entire Asian community and we condemn all forms of crimes and gun violence. We mourn the loss of lives and offer prayers for the victims, as well as the family and friends of the victims, and those who were affected by this tragedy.
Meanwhile, we’d also like to share with the community that there is no evidence to prove this shooting incident in California is an Asian hate Crime.
Having said that, we will continue to do everything we can to stop Asian hate.
Asia Institute – Crane House will host its annual Lunar New Year Dinner and Auction at Mellwood Arts Center on Saturday, Feb. 4. Alerted by this incident, we are re-evaluating the situation and will heighten security for our own celebration on Feb. 4.”
